This summer of 2018, I interned with/job shadowed the English Learner and Accessibility Specialist at the Michigan Department of Education. My time with the MDE afforded me a glimpse into the educational assessments in Michigan and the realities of implementing top-down policies with teachers considering the very specific contexts of disabled English Language Learners. The College of Arts and Letters at Michigan State University got wind of my internship opportunity and wrote this piece about my experience there.
